The institution is located in an improvised built campus in Mirpur; a city in the South of the State, situated on the bank of Mangla Dam. The College is recognized by PMDC for 100 admissions. First year MBBS classes started on 31st January 2012.College bears a long history of struggle for its creation. Late Premier ZA Bhutto first announced the opening of Medical College at Mirpur in 1976; however it could not be materialized. On the consistent efforts of Ch. Abdul Majeed (now Prime Minster of AJ&K.) The Azad Government of the State of Jammu &Kashmir will conduct the State Entry Test for admission to 1st Year MBBS in Public Sector Medical institutions of Azad Kashmir and reserved seats of MBBS/BDS for AJ&K Nationals in Pakistan. As per regulations of Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PM&DC), it is mandatory to appear in Entrance Test for admissions in any medical college (Public / Private Sector) of AJ&K and for nomination against reserved seat for AJ&K Nationals in Public Sector Medical / Dental Colleges Pakistan as well.

i) Azad Jammu and Kashmir nationals ( From all districts of AJK , refugees settled in Pakistan and 1989) ii) Only AJ&K Nationals (Having Domicile of any District of AJ&K) can apply against reserved seats for Disabled candidates. Nomination / Admission against these seats will be made on merit and on recommendations of Medical Board Constituted / Headed by Director General Health Services, Go. AJ&K. iii) Admissions under the category of Special Seat for Neelum & Special Seat for Leepa reserved in Ayub Medical College Abbottabad shall be made on merit. Following conditions are applicable on admission on these seats. a) Only those candidates are eligible who complete their education of intermediate (Part-I & Part-II) from any institution of that area as a regular student (Certificate from Head of Institution must be attached). b) If No eligible candidate is available for these seats, the seat will be allocated on merit to a candidate of that special area of Leepa & Neelum. c) Allotment of Seat will be made to toper from Neelum and first looser from Leepa (so that the rights of deserving candidates can be protected). iv) For seats reserved in Self-Finance category (@ 600,000/- per annum) in Medical Colleges of AJ&K candidates from AJ&K & Pakistan can apply. Entry Test from their respective province will be considered, however if any candidate from Pakistan wants to apply against self-finance category, can also appear in State Entry Test 2015-16 v) Admission criteria on Doctor’s Children Seats reserved in Public Sector Medical Colleges of AJ&K will be as under: a) Only Children of those Doctors are eligible who are 1st class State Subject of State of Jammu & Kashmir. b) College allotment will be made strictly on merit cum choice basis against this category. c) Selection will only be made from AJ&K Nationals (Domiciled from any district of Azad Jammu & Kashmir. d) Only those candidates are eligible whose parent (Father / Mother) has served under Azad Government more than ten years (including deceased). vi) Admissions will be made according to prescribed quota of each district / unit, anyhow if no eligible candidate available from any unit the seat will be allotted on Open merit. However vacant seats in Medical Colleges of AJ&K will be filled according to Policy Notification No. S.H/II/P-II/(24)1 /2013 dated 24.04.2013. vii)Overseas Kashmiris meeting the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council criteria for admission against the reserve seats for overseas candidate will have to apply with all relevant proof of second nationality and certificates of educational record from a foreign institution along with the result of SAT II (US $ 4000/- will be charged per annum). viii) For Admissions against reserved seats for B.D.S, candidates (excluding refugees 1947/ 1989) will have to apply separately. ix) Refugees 1947, selected on open merit of any other province of Pakistan are bound to avail their seat of open merit. If their nomination / admissionis found otherwise at any stage, the admission / nomination will stand cancelled from date of admission / nomination. x) Candidates claiming for Hafiz-e Quran marks will have to appear before the committee constituted for such purpose. xi) Candidates who are applying against more than one category must fill separate form for each category.

i) The candidates having domicile of any district of Azad Kashmir and of Refugees of Jammu & Kashmir (1947 / 1989). ii) Dual Nationals / Overseas Kashmiris must take State Entrance Test or SAT-II with minimum score of 550 in each science subject i.e. Biology, Chemistry and Physics / Mathematics as no other test will be valid to determine their merit for admission in MBBS against reserved seats for Overseas Kashmiris in AJ&K Medical Colleges.
